How Do You Play With Your Food? Part 3: Pretend Play

pretend play food playIf I ask a picky eater to touch a food with me, they often resist. Then we play with the same food as a car and they don't think twice! For the past two weeks we've focused on building with foods and taking them apart. This week's focus is pretending with food. Pretend play has so many benefits as Renee from the blog Adventures At Home With Mum explains in her guest post on Positive Parenting Connection. Through pretend play, children learn how to interact with the world, how to take turns, how to structure and tell a story and because it all happens in a 'pretend' world, trying new things doesn't seem as scary.Pretend play is infinite and endless. Your child can pretend with food about favorite themes like cars, trains or cooking and you may be surprised where their imaginations take them. Go with it, add to their ideas with details or next steps. Get into it and most of all, have fun!I hope you enjoy this week's activities! Happy food-play!
