Take Off The Muffin Top

left to right: blueberry muffin, fresh blueberries, blueberries from muffinA muffin is a big chunk of food that can be overwhelming, but when your child knows how it feels on the inside, they'll be more likely to break off a piece and take a bite. Activity:Take a few minutes and show your child how you can break pieces off of the muffin. Show them how the bread part crumbles or mushes together (depending on the muffin). Go on a treasure hunt and find the blueberries or nuts hiding inside. Add fresh blueberries or nuts to the activity and talk about the similarities and differences when they are fresh vs cooked.Add a Song:Sing about what you are doing with the food to the tune of "This Is The Way We Go To School." Ex: "This is the way we find the blueberries, find the blueberries, find the blueberries. This is the way we find the blueberries so early in the morning."Add a Concept:Inside/Outside: How is the outside of the muffin different than the inside?Counting: Count the blueberries or nuts in the muffin.Get curious; get creative!Enjoy and happy food-play!
