Make Your Own Mr. Potato Head!
Mr. Potato Head is a classic! It's a toy that can teach lots of developmental skills like learning body parts, spacial awareness, fine motor skills and pretend play, to name a few. And, if you make a Mr. Potato Head out of a real potato with real food parts, you can add positive food learning to that list! Toothpicks are the best way I've come up with to attach the pieces to the potato, so to do this activity, your child should be able to be safe with the sharp end of a toothpick! I cut my toothpicks in thirds with scissors so the ends don't poke all the way through the pieces or the potato.Start with a regular baked potato for the body. Then make 'pieces' out of whatever foods you have in the fridge. This can be a great way to use up the ends of broccoli, cauliflower or asparagus. You can also use pieces of fruit (though the jucier the fruit, the messier this project becomes!).Have fun giving your Mr. Potato Head different shoes, lips, noses, ears, eyes, hats and anything else you can think of. Then switch up the pieces and change his face, his outfit, his hair. If you made 2 baked potatoes you could make a Mrs. Potato Head or a friend for Mr. Potato Head to play with. However you choose to play, I hope you have so much fun! Happy food play! :)
